Louisiana to Institute "State-waters Only" Red Snapper Season for 2013

On Friday, May 4, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) took action to implement a "Louisiana-only" red snapper recreational season, set to begin in 2013.

This Louisiana red snapper weekend-only season would begin the Saturday preceding Palm Sunday each year and end September 30 of the same year, with a recreational bag limit of three fish per day at a 16 inch minimum. A weekend is defined as Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the exception of Memorial Day and Labor Day, when Monday would be classified as a weekend as well.

This past weekend's Louisiana Saltwater Series speckled trout tournament held true to form, and although there were several prized catches, the highlight of the event was inarguably the extraordinary number of fish tagged and released. A total of 45 trout and one flounder were caught, tagged and released by the 18 participating teams.

Sturgeon fisheries above Bonneville Dam modified

CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- Oregon and Washington fishery managers announced the closure of sturgeon retention in the John Day Reservoir of the Columbia River, effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012.
The 2012 white sturgeon harvest quota is 500 fish, which managers predict will be met on May 20.

Additional trout releases scheduled for five streams

Anglers can enjoy extended trout fishing this spring on five northern Indiana streams thanks to additional stockings from the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife.

The five streams are Pigeon River in Steuben and LaGrange counties, Turkey Creek in LaGrange County, Little Elkhart River in Elkhart County, Little Kankakee River in LaPorte County and Potato Creek in St. Joseph County.
